Where the Airport Sits in Relation to Atlanta

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport sits about 20 minutes south of downtown during normal traffic. Interstates 20, 75, 85 and 285 run near the airport, giving drivers several approaches depending on their destination.

For a downtown drive, take I-75/85 South to I-85 and follow signs to the Domestic Terminal. The International Terminal has a separate entrance from I-75 at Exit 239, so check which terminal your airline uses before setting out.

The Domestic Terminal address is 6000 North Terminal Parkway, Suite 4000, Atlanta, GA 30320. The International Terminal is at 2600 Maynard H. Jackson Jr. Boulevard, Atlanta, GA 30354. If you’re staying at Travel Inn Atlanta, the airport is about a 30-minute drive away.

MARTA from the Airport

MARTA from the Airport

MARTA Airport Station is at the west end of the Domestic Terminal, between the North and South baggage claim areas. It’s the southern terminus of the Red and Gold rail lines, so you can board either line there for a northbound trip toward downtown.

Both lines connect at Five Points station in downtown Atlanta. For more on navigating the network once you arrive, see this guide to Atlanta public transport.

MARTA lists rail service from 4:45 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays and from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends. Its standard one-way fare is $2.50 for rail, bus, Rapid and MARTA Reach, with up to four free transfers within three hours.

There’s one route detail to keep in mind for late trips: after 9 p.m., the Red Line runs between Lindbergh and North Springs. If you’re heading north from the airport to a Red Line station, you may need to transfer from a Gold Line train at Lindbergh Center.

MARTA rail serves the Domestic Terminal. If your flight is international, check your airline’s check-in requirements for the International Terminal. A free airport shuttle links the terminals: it leaves from the International Terminal curb and drops passengers at the west end of the Domestic Terminal.

Driving, Taxis and Rideshares

Driving, Taxis and Rideshares

If you’re driving, follow the signs for your terminal and allow time to reach the right pickup or parking area. For a taxi, the pickup point depends on the terminal:

  • Domestic Terminal: Aisle A of the Ground Transportation Center, at stalls A3–A10.
  • International Terminal: the Arrivals level, outside Door A-1.

Published flat taxi fares from ATL are $37.50 for one person to Downtown, $39.50 to Midtown and $49.50 to Buckhead. Each additional passenger costs $2. The listed flat fares include a $1.50 airport usage fee; fuel surcharges of $2 or $3 may also apply, based on AAA’s 14-day average gasoline price.

Rideshare pickup is in a different place from taxi pickup. At the Domestic Terminal, follow the orange signs from North baggage claim to the North Economy lot, then request a ride once you reach the pickup area.

At the International Terminal, pickup is at the Arrivals-level curb: exit through Door A1 or A2 and cross toward your selected ride. The airport lists Uber, Lyft, HeRide and Boogidy as authorized Domestic Terminal providers.

Getting from the Airport to Downtown

For a direct rail trip, take a northbound Red or Gold train from Airport Station and connect at Five Points for downtown. If you’d rather take a taxi, the published flat fare for one person to Downtown is $37.50, with an additional $2 for each extra passenger.

Driving is another option: from downtown, reach the Domestic Terminal on I-75/85 South, then follow the signs to Domestic. Use the separate I-75 entrance at Exit 239 for the International Terminal. If you’re comparing routes across the city, the Atlanta public transport guide covers local transit beyond the airport connection.

Planning the Last Leg to Your Accommodation

For a hotel shuttle, head to Aisle C of the Domestic Terminal Ground Transportation Center. Shuttle times vary by hotel, so contact yours to confirm arrival and departure details before you rely on a pickup. If you’re staying at Travel Inn Atlanta, contact the hotel directly about its shuttle arrangements.

If you’re collecting a rental car or using off-airport parking, check where your provider picks up. Domestic Terminal off-airport parking shuttles use Aisle D of the Ground Transportation Center. Providers listed there include Wally Park, Park N Ticket, Preflight, Peachy and The Parking Spot.

ATL lists daily parking rates of $30 for Daily parking, $20 for Economy, $30 for ATL West Deck, $15 for uncovered ATL Select, $20 for covered ATL Select, $40 for oversized ATL Select and $15 for Domestic Park Ride.

International Park Ride is listed at $30 per day. International Hourly parking has a maximum of $70 for the first day and $100 per day for each additional day.

The free Park and Wait Lot is at 1920 Autoport Drive, College Park, GA 30337. ATL recommends checking parking availability before driving to the airport and provides separate printable maps for Domestic and International parking. Its special-services map marks sensory rooms, service-animal relief areas, adult changing stations, wheelchair charging stations, family restrooms and TTY/TDD telephones.
